🚨 I can honestly say I’ve never heard a trunk contusion diagnosis reported on TV before. It makes tons of sense... a contusion is essentially a bruise and the player got hip-checked by a bigger guy. .
Expect him to miss 0-2 games and make a full recovery unless a rib was fractured and not detected right away.

Rough and humbling time. Crazy how far I've come in a short 8 1/2 months. I couldn't even lift my leg to crutch for almost a month. I had to tie a rope to my leg in order to lift it. I often watch this video now as motivation. As a reminder of anything is possible with patience and hard work. As a reminder anything can be taken away at any moment so enjoy the blessings you have. As a reminder things could be a lot worse. I am thankful for all the help and support I had through that time and I'm so very excited that I am almost through it!
“Nothing athletic happens in your heels”
In 1964, Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight founded Blue Ribbon Sports—now known as “Nike.” Rumor has it that Bowerman theorized that a longer stride would lead to increased speed for runners. In a gait pattern where a stride is lengthened, a runner will likely land on their heels—thus, Bowerman’s earliest Nike running shoe concepts sported a heavily-cushioned heel to absorb the impact of a “heel-strike” and drive better performance. The rest of the sneaker world followed suit.
Fast forward to 2019, and there are now massive amounts of runners dealing with everything from IT band syndrome, shin splints and plantar fasciitis. While there are various factors that could contribute to an athlete’s developing these problems, the idea that your heel is a mechanism for continually absorbing that type of force is a toxic one that can cause all of the above problems and then some.
The heel is a great part of the foot to manipulate when training, especially when elevating it to reinforce good pelvic position/tendon health, get into late propulsion movement, or referring to it in a “Tripod Foot” for weight distribution in an exercise.
But NOTHING about the BOTTOM of the heel itself is athletic when it comes to explosiveness/reactivity. If you wanted to get all technical on me and start talking achilles, I caught myself. Your toes/ball of your foot and forefoot will be what gets you moving quick, followed by tendons, knees, hips, etc
Train athleticism where athleticism originates, and let the cogs and gears of your body be the cogs and gears. Apply WD-40 (mobility work/ISOs/LICT) as needed. -Rant on Nike’s design history loosely paraphrased from Part 1 of Richard Diaz’ ( @diazhp) “My Best Race”
