And just like that it's Friday! I think Loki is the most excited today LOL Let's use this post to share one positive thing that happened to us this week! Positivity is contagious so let's spread the word :)
Want to know how to create the perfect mood board?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s 1 part vision, 2 parts creativity and 3 parts feeling.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ok, I basically made my own mood board cocktail, but let me explain...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You need a clear idea of how you want your brand to look.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then you get your thinking cap on and source images that relate to that look.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
THEN you ensure each of those images evoke the feeling you want your brand to convey.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Once you’ve gathered the perfect combo of visuals, you arrange them on a page and voila! You’ve created your brand’s mood board! ✨💕
I’m a sucker for hearing love stories, watching wedding recap videos and scrolling through @averywasselphotography’s IG to view the couples he’s shot. Whether you’re planning to get engaged or having a wedding (or know someone that is) in 2020, there’s nobody I’d trust more to capture the special day than Avery.
.
Here’s a look at the detailed photography price-list I had the pleasure of designing for @averywasselphotography last month.

The more I study calligraphy, the more I appreciate organic calligraphy. Those refined practiced stokes never got to me as flourishes can easily be automated into a computer font. I learned that unpredictable corners, turns, rounds are much more natural and exactly why people need #organiccalligraphy to exist instead, despite all of us forgetting how to write as millennials but can type on the keyboard in our sleep. #organic#torontocalligrapher

Jurassic Park traumatized me in Grade 3.
.
Jurassic Park was one of my favourite movies as a child. Back in the day, if you clicked on pay per view channels the image was scrambled and you couldn’t see anything properly but you could hear the audio. At one point we had a descrambler box, it would unscramble the images so that you could watch the pay per view channels. Everyday I would watch Jurassic Park and Dumb & Dumber, to the point that I could recite all the music and dialogue; I loved that box.
.
This was around the time I started learning about dinosaurs in school. Giant lizards that used to roam the earth before us and got wiped away; Tyrannosaurus, brachiosaurus, velociraptor, triceratops, what an amazing concept! Power rangers was also out, and even dinosaur transformers! These media companies really milked the dinosaur craze.
.
One traumatic day in grade 3, I was looking at a dinosaur poster explaining which ones lived during which time periods. I was shocked to find that most of my favourite dinosaurs did not live during the Jurassic period!!! How could they do this to me!? How could my favourite movie betray me like this!? It’s called Jurassic Park and these animals weren’t even in the Jurassic period!!!!!!???? This may be the first time I was ever impacted by the lies of the media also the first memory of my attention to detail.

We created this logo for AIAC using two of their brand colours and incorporating the maple leaf that forms the dot on the “i” in their main logo. In this version of the mark, we needed to include conference dates and location. Finding that perfect lock up between logo and additional information is always a little bit tricky — but always a little bit fun.
Because it’s an aerospace event, we created a graphic device reminiscent of flight, movement, the wings of an airplane, or space shuttle, with a nod to the tip of a maple leaf (flipped on its side). The challenge with AIAC projects is because it’s a bilingual organization, you have to keep French in mind when you’re creating designs for them. Any designer (or copywriter) knows French verbiage is much longer than English and it can pose design problems. This is where the “always typeset the longest word first” rule really comes in handy. 😉
When it all comes together and your design doesn’t just work, but soars in English AND French, that’s where the magic happens. Swipe to see the results. .
