Box 4 of the Ritual Box series. Just like box 3, there is a fabric panel that can be removed to hide a small item beneath it, or just to reveal a beautiful hand-printed chiyogami paper. However, unlike box 3, the fabric panel is double-sided for extra options. The box is made of cherry with walnut liner, and a carve-textured red oak lid that is detailed with sumi ink and accentuated by filling the grain with soot collected from burnt plant oils. Also like the others, this box also features ebony accents and natural cord. The finish is tung oil. This box is currently available for purchase via DM.
About the Ritual Box series:
Even beyond the ceremonial sense, ritual is a part of everyday life. Some rituals serve a function, while others are actions that simply comfort us, giving us moments to reflect on what we're doing or on life on general. Whether it be making the bed in the morning, your first coffee or tea of the day, or the order of actions you take to prepare yourself for bed, ritual is common in our lives in mundane ways we may not even notice. My ritual boxes attempt to incorporate this concept via the materials and textures used, and with the actions one must perform when interacting with the box, with the hope that the combined effect of these things brings you closer to the item and its contents, and, if I have been fully successful, that it draws you to to be more present to experience and even cherish the moment you are living in, during and after this interaction.
