Poles with beautiful glass insulators.
I hope as us humans are finding that “we are all connected” omg who knew!! ..that we are putting our minds together and solving actual problems.. designing and creating real solutions that will be carried out. Now is the time.
Whatever our expertise is we need to in an egoless and selfless way.

📚 From Dr. Bonni Goldstein’s Cannabis Revealed - “If your endocannabinoid system is not functioning well, simply put, you are out of balance.” If your endocannabinoid system is the problem, OTC & prescribed meds won’t work because they don’t target this system in your body which can lead to chronic illness & stress.
According to Dr. Goldstein, many patients who use cannabis can actually “target the cause of the medical condition” and that’s where the healing can begin.
Do you also use cannabis to heal what prescriptions couldn’t fix? This figure was previously thought to be 40,000 but new research from a two year study found that the figure is much higher than previously thought.
The UK has pledged to work on a new clean air act but has received criticism for delaying simple, yet effective measures, such as diesel tax.
The world's air quality is reaching a "crisis point" according to global scientists. Those most affected are in developing countries, yet millions of people also die in the developed world due to unclean air and water. "Not enough is being done to halt one of the biggest preventable killers in the world."
Merry Christmas everyone!
The Christmas tree debate- real or fake?
There is much debate around which type of tree is more eco friendly. A fake tree can be used for many years, and some might prefer this to chopping down a real one. But, although this might be more eco friendly in the short term, it can have long lasting environmental impacts once discarded. Even though you might use a fake tree for 30 years in a row, once it is made, it will never decompose. They are made of plastic, and after staying in tact for around 400 years, the plastic will break down into smaller pieces, called microplastics. Microplastic is the most dangerous, toxic type as the smaller the piece, the easier it can contaminate human body cells and environmental chemistry.
A real Christmas tree has a short term environmental impact. Once the tree is cut down, used, discarded and begins to decompose, it releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which it had removed and stored from when it was alive. Cutting down billions of trees around the world once a year for Christmas celebrations may seem unethical but this does not usually contribute to deforestation. Most Christmas trees are grown on a farm, and once they have been cut they are immediately replaced so they can be grown the next year. So, the net amount of trees, specifically planted for Christmas and then cut down for Christmas does not change the number of trees.
The most sustainable Christmas tree you can get is a potted one. These ones can live throughout the year, in your garden, and then be brought back inside once a year for Christmas. Whilst also preventing the use of plastic trees, and preventing trees being cut down, these potted ones also purify the air in your home, removing pollutants, and producing oxygen. These can be used for many, many years in a row, and if cared for properly, can last a lifetime.
Diesel cars create around 20% less CO2 than petrol cars, but do produce more Nitrogen oxides, soot and fine particles which contribute to cancer, heart and lung damage, and poor mental functioning.
Currently there are plans for all new cars produced in the UK to be effectively 'zero emission' by 2040 to tackle air pollution. The government is under pressure to bring forward the ban on all new petrol and diesel cars to 2032 following parliamentary disputes about the climate plan.
Currently in the UK there is one zero emission street. No petrol or diesel cars are allowed to drive down Beech street in London, only pedestrians, cyclists and zero emission cars are allowed. Gradually more of these zero emission zones will be introduced in the UK.
Just seen the best idea for wrapping Christmas presents!
Traditional wrapping paper is coated in plastic and therefore non recyclable.
These presents have been wrapped with the decorative pages of a newspaper, which is 100% recyclable, and still looks good! Also makes each present unique! I'll definitely be doing this, this year!
PM causes a haze, reducing visibility and decreasing photosynthesis in plants. This negatively affects their yield, and increases their risk of disease, meaning that commercial food crops become more limited in periods of high PM.
The fires in Australia at the moment are causing huge amounts of PM to be released into the atmosphere.
This does not just affect the environment, it also affects health; PM can damage both the heart and lungs, decreasing function and efficiency, in addition to worsening existing conditions such as asthma and heart disease.
Climate change is thought to be a contributor to the increased fires in Australia, and the fix for climate change will require the world to come up with a solution together. It's not one countries responsibility, it's everyone's.
Sending love to Australia.
Drying out some home grown chillies so they last me through the winter. I love spicy food, especially in this chilly winter weather!
Yes, you can thank the Victorians for our sewage systems! Invented and built in Victorian times, to combat the Great Stink, so we no longer needed to throw our waste out the window, much to the delight of the passer by.
In addition to the small sewers there is also a lack of natural drainage in urban areas as there are little plants and soil to absorb the rain.
Fill your home with green plants to purify the air, it's one of the best ways to combat indoor air pollution.
Having plants indoors can also help reduce feelings of depression and increase relaxation as naturally we would be surrounded by plants all the time.
The industrial revolution was the time when goods went from being manufactured at small shops and homes to large factories, which began in the 1770s. Coal was known as the backbone to the industrial revolution and was used to power many machines, it was practically unlimited in quantity in Great Britain at the time.
The use of this fuel, among others, and a rapidly increasing population had enormous effects on the environment. Clouds of soot and other chemicals were released into the air from these factories, contaminating the air, plants and water supplies. Cities, such as London, were thick with smog, greatly reducing visibility, inhibiting photosynthesis of food crops and silently poisoning residents.
Air quality has improved since; soot and lead are no longer the main pollutants, as they were back then. Now the air is polluted mainly with particulate matter, methane, VOCs and Nitrogen dioxide. We have come a long way since the industrial revolution but we still have a long way to go, for both our health and the environment.
Supporting smaller businesses is another way to reduce your environmental impact.
Smol's carbon footprint is lower than other competing laundry brands as their packaging and pods are smaller and lighter, burning less fuel during transport.
The cardboard they use comes from responsibly managed forests, made from 100% recycled and recyclable material.
Smol uses plastic for their outer packaging but this plastic is 100% recyclable time and time again, making it more sustainable. Most plastic can only be recycled once.
With further developments smol hope to eventually move to biodegradable plastic to further reduce their environmental impact.
With the current population growth in the UK, and increasing demand for industry, air quality is expected to get worse with time.
Disease is expected to increase by 2.4 million new cases by 2035, and air pollution related healthcare costs are expected to reach £5.3 billion for the cumulative costs of heart and lung diseases, strokes, cancer and asthma.
However, there is a possibility of reaching £18.6 billion if costs for diabetes, low birth weight, and dementia is considered.
(In the UK) Air pollution is the biggest environmental health risk in Europe. - European Environment Agency.
Throughout Europe the level of air pollution exceeds EU standards and world health guidelines.
The EU air quality directive implement measures for member countries to regulate the level of air pollution. Close proximity to busy roads is the most common reason for areas to exceed EU air pollution regulations.
Exposure to air pollution can increase risk of heart and lung diseases, and cancer, in addition to contaminating food and water supplies, and damaging crop fields.
Green plants absorb air pollution, so increasing the number of trees and greenery around your home will purify the air and reduce risk of disease and contamination.
Climate change brings drier summers, more prone to drought and fire, and wetter winters more likely to suffer from floods.
Drier weather makes it more difficult to grow crops, both to feed animals and people. Water bodies are also more likely to dry out. In places such as Africa more watering holes are drying out, some animals trek many miles only to come across a pile of mud instead of much needed water, this increases death rates of endangered animals such as Elephants.
The current plan to tackle this in the UK is to store up water from winter to use in the summer. But, to safely keep sanitary water for 6 months for an entire country requires a lot of space, money and maintenance.
Human: Sorry Earth, for killing you.
Earth: Dear human, do not worry, for I have been around for millions of years, I have been a barren ball of lava and rock, a ball of ice, and a ball flourishing with all kinds of life. I have survived meteor strikes, the dinosaur extinction, and many an ice age.
Dear human, you are so self centred for thinking that your emissions, plastic and harmful behaviour would kill me. It is not me you are killing, I will survive. Don't you see? You are killing yourselves, you are changing the environment so fast that soon you will not be able to breathe the air, drink the water or even grow food.
I am the Earth, I have been around for billions of years before you and I will still be here long after you are gone. Your environment is changing but I will stay strong.
Plastic was invented in 1920 and began to be mass produced in the 1950s.
Can you believe it has only been 70 years since plastic became mainstream? Yet it is absolutely everywhere. Can you imagine life without it?
To everyone who said they cant stop buying plastic because they wouldn't know what to eat, to people who won't stop using plastic bags because it is too inconvenient to remember a fabric bag, to everyone who uses plastic cups and straws at parties because it's an essential...
Humans have thrived for more than 200,000 years, so how have we become so dependent on plastic within the last 70?
Plastic free living doesn't need to be expensive.
Refilling your empty pasta and coffee jars with loose food can save you money if you don't want to spend a fortune on jars alone. The supermarket brand pasta sauce costs about 80p, and you get a free jar! Sounds like a bargain to me!
There are many stores that sell loose dry food such as pasta, beans, rice etc. Shopping in these stores is one way to lower plastic waste in your home!
Known as the plastic polluter that you never even thought about. Yet, tyres are a huge contributor to microplastic pollution.
It is estimated that there are over 1 billion cars on the road globally every day, so it's really no surprise that they contribute to such a large proportion of the microplastic in the ocean.
The very mechanism that makes the brake system work, the friction of the tyre on the road, is how microplastic is created.
Vehicles are an important part of every day human life, but what alternatives are out there?
Indoor air is more deadly than outdoor air. More people die per year from indoor air pollution, such as smoke coming from a dirty cookstove, than from the fumes that come from car exhausts.
Women and children are among the most vulnerable to this type of pollution.
It is really important, particularly in these cold months, to remember to open your windows every so often.
Alternatively, fill your home with green plants, which remove pollutants, and purify the air in your home.
Just another reason to love your Christmas tree.
Research suggests that there is a direct link between increasing childhood asthma and pneumonia in areas of high air pollution. Children are also closer to the ground, where more potent air pollution lurks.
Air pollution is heavier than clean air. This means that air pollution sinks and is more dense closer to the ground. Roads which have buildings on either side and no gaps are typically areas of high pollution as the surrounding infrastructure traps the pollution and prevents it from dispersing away.
This is why motorways have dense plants on either side- plants absorb pollution and prevent it from seeping into nearby crop fields and residential areas.
Outdoor air pollution includes fumes from fossil fuels, automotive exhausts, chemical fertilisers, waste burning and smog.
Inhalation of these pollutants can lead to heart and respiratory diseases.
Of the 3 million:
40% of these deaths are due to heart disease,
40% due to strokes,
11% due to COPD,
6% due to lung cancer
and 3% due to respiratory infections in children,
*all induced by outdoor air pollution.* Electric cars and wind turbines don't seem as costly now.
