The task has six different 2-move solutions. They are based on four auxiliary points that can be constructed using one of six lines.

[1] AB = 4 - diameter
[2] BD = 4 - by construction
[3] Considering [1] and [2], AB = BD
[4] < ABC = < CBD - subtend equal arcs
[5] BC - common side

[7] < CDB = 90° by construction, therefore < CAB = 90° (CPCTC)
It follows that the line AC is tangent.

Fraction Fortress...one of my FAVORITE fraction games!
Stack the fortress up, fitting all the coordinating fraction pieces together to complete a level equal to one whole. The highest fortress at the end of (a time limit) wins! Use strategy, understand the relationships between the fractions and stack to win! <3 This is such an amazing use of #visualmath to demonstrate common denominators and what fractions are equivalent to "friendly" with others. Commit and Capture is another fun game from Box Cars and One Eyed Jacks. The directions say to use cards, you totally can. I use dice. Which dice?? Any!! This game is so flexible, you can use integer dice, fraction dice, standard six sided dice, or other polyhedra dice! Have them change the fractions to a decimal and then perform the operations...my mind goes crazy with different variations. <3 I love to up the skill level with these options. We played with four 0-9 (10 sided dice). There are variations you can do...everyone uses the same roll, each team or player rolls their own number. You can play where you place the numbers rolled anywhere on the page and then at the end, use the order of operations to get your answers to compare. So many fun ideas. Have you heard about Area Mazes? They are fantastic! Problem solving alone or preferably with a partner or small group. Lots of thinking, undoing, and reversing the operations to solve. You have to understand the relationship between the numbers and shapes in relation to each other, while considering the area.

A peek into math this week!
7th grade has hit their essential standards so we reviewed equations, inequalities and proportional relationships. They have finished their carnival games and we have been collecting data for the experimental probability. We have kindergarten and first graders coming on Monday to play our games!
6th grade is working on surface area using nets. We created our own net and are now using the 3D printer pens to make our prism or pyramid!

Super excited to start a VERY shortened version of a roller coaster project with 8th grade algebra 1 students!
They work with a partner and create a rollercoaster that has a minimum of 3 straight lines, then they find the equations of the 3 straight lines and finally they transfer their roller coaster onto a larger sheet for the "final presentation". Super excited to see the ideas each student comes up with!

I don't know about you guys but the hallways at my school are pretty boring. I like to take activities/projects that we have done in class and hang them up. I write on the dry erase triangles on my door the "I Can" statement that went along with the project along with what they did.
My goal was to update my hallway monthly but it ended up being quarterly .. oh well, I tried!

Friday fun from today!
I have been dabbling with project based learning and am introduced students to the Probability Carnival Project! They all dove in and got started so quickly! So many great ideas were being shared and discussed, check back later for the final products!
I also got to celebrate 2 of my classes for having everyone passing the 3rd quarter. Our school has implemented standards based grading this year so my students are able to complete a retest on every test after doing a reteaching lesson with me.
