For this page I tend to post about those that I did not know personally. Considering it’s Father’s Day it’s only appropriate to post a little remembrance of my own dad.
Dad was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals and Razorback fan. I’m sure it sometimes frustrated him that we could never really bond over those things since sports held no interest for me. Luckily my brother took the pressure off of me regarding the whole sports thing.
One of my greatest memories of him was of him taking me to the local playground numerous times. I’d climb and work off my energy while he’d exclaim “That’s my acrobat!” Being a little guy I had no idea what that word meant but I knew it had to be good since he was so happy and enthusiastic about it.
Mom and Dad were made for each other. Although they could have some epic fights, there was a tenderness that always connected them. After mom passed away in 2001, he was never truly the same.
The greatest Father’s Day gift we ever got him involved some major sleuthing by my mom. When my grandfather died in 1963, most of the farms holdings were sold off. This included a John Deere tractor that my dad always talked about. Through some major searching and a road trip through the most remote areas of Arkansas the tractor was found once again. My grandmother instantly recognized the rusting heap as the exact one since a tool box that my dad and grandpa has welded on it was still there.
The tractor was delivered shortly before Fathers Day and our family his in the bushes to await my dads return from work. As he drove up he spotted it and a look of confusion spread across his face. When he got out of his truck he surveyed the tractor and saw the tool box. He instantly broke down crying. I think it was the first time I ever saw the man cry.
Dad lovingly restored the tractor over the period of several years and it remains as the greatest gift he ever received.
Happy Fathers Day to all the Fathers out there.
Malta, bellissima quanto caldissima!☀
Senza fretta.
