A quote from one of my all-time favourite illustrators, Christoph Niemann. I find this quote inspiring because of how relatable it is - and how even someone as amazingly talented as Christoph can feel this way sometimes too. The creative process is often times very challenging. Some days, I’m given a project and I feel like I can’t think of a single good idea. Other times, I could be struck with a multitude of ideas and it becomes hard to choose the best one. Though the final product of a project is exciting to look at, it is the long-winding journey of constant ideation, bouncing between concepts, and non-stop revisions that keeps the work of designing challenging yet rewarding.
If you are unfamiliar with Christoph Niemann, I highly recommend checking out his work at @abstractsunday… you’ll be amazed. There is also a really good documentary about him on the show “Abstract” on Netflix that I also recommend!
I illustrated this quote as an entry to RGD's DesignThinkers Scholarship. DesignThinkers is an annual conference that hosts talented designers. Previous events have hosted big names including Christoph Niemann, Paula Scher, Stefan Seigmeister, and Chip Kidd. I've never been to a DesignThinkers conference and I'd absolutely love the opportunity to go!
