SepTIMEber the 14th, wow. Time does fly when you're having fun - so does the moon, the clouds and the world, and our sun. They're really out there, flying something fierce. That's not to say they're free as a wizard. We need our earth, moon and clouds to fly the way they do, or we'd most likely not be here.
So what am I rambling about exactly? Well I'll get onto it. This may seem a little confusing and untechnical at first, but for examples sake, imagine you had a gun, and a gun licence, and a thicc book you wanted to test it out on. Your gun is very powerful, and you shoot the gun aimed at the book while it's being stabilised firmly upright. The bullet passes through from front to back without feeling much resistance. Great, there's a beautiful clean trail left by the bullet in the pages. Like a hole in the cheese. This is what we wanted. 🧀😎 So if we can use this trail as an example of how we move through space and time, making an imprint or echo or chem trail that stayed completely static then we could refer to it as a line from the present, all the way back into the past, as far back as we pushed the record button. A great example of this is long exposure photography.
Now what does this have to do with anything? Well it has to do with World Lines. As Wikipedia states, a world line is: "a curve in space–time joining the positions of a particle throughout its existence". While we like and do lines, science likes its curves. But for this discussion I'll call it a curve, because that's what most of us do, we don't just go in a straight line from A to B, even those who sail across oceans or fly over continents, they fly in a curve, called a Great Circle course, because the EARTH IS NOT FLAT, like a projected map, it's a sphere. If you drew a long straight line on a sphere, and flattened it out, you'd find it was actually quite curvaceous. 😎🍑 Now what if I told you, hah, wait for it. The earth is spiralling out of our control into darkness. Hah! It's completely true. We may think our sun sits stationary in space, while we are the ones doing the hard yards. Turns out, the sun is also orbiting, and we are pulled with it, on a beautiful helical world line.
