Going Home. We don’t have amazing news. It’s not horrible YET, I really hate hearing that word. His counts are dropping down. We can only hope it’s this virus and he will get better, and they will come back up on their own. 🤞🏼 Praying this is not an Evan’s Syndrome relapse.

Another horror movie song. Seems like something that might be at the intro of the twilight zone doesn't it? I used samples from a percussionist friend and a flutist friend for this one.
Silent Night Deadly Night is directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr. and stars Robert Brian Wilson as young Billy, who, after watching his parents get brutally murdered at a young age, goes on a murderous rampage of his own years later on Christmas Eve. I remember renting this from my local video store as a kid and being fascinated by the melding of Christmas and horror. Outside of maybe "Gremlins," this was my first introduction into this sub-genre and the idea of Santa going around killing people sent chills down my 10 year old spine. Now, revisiting as an adult, I can say that this film is in no way scary, but it follows the classic slasher formula so well and ends up being a lot of fun to watch.
The problem with this movie, despite it being an entertaining slasher, is that it takes way to long to get there and the lead up to it isn't exactly the most compelling or coherent story. You can tell that they had an idea for a killer Santa and tried to work their way backwards to explain why he would snap on Christmas, but it just didn't work. The strength of the writing wasn't there and by the time we got to the killing spree, it wasn't earned or made much sense based on what we had seen from the character so far. And I know if you're looking for great storytelling in an 80s slasher, you're looking in the wrong place, but my issue is the time they spent on it and it wasn't necessary. Then you have the performances, which I thought were decent across the board. The dialogue is horrendous in parts, but the way everyone carried themselves with a seriousness for the material was actually a little above average for a film like this. Wilson is great and even though I didn't buy his sudden turn, his performance as the maniacal Santa is one of the best parts of the movie. The scene between him and the little girl is pure gold.
There are also some really awesome kills here that would appeal to even the purest slasher enthusiast. The gore effects are very well done and I absolutely love the score. Very Christmas inspired music with a great blend of horror tones. Despite the script, this is super fun and gets you into the holiday spirit.
SCORE - 6.5/10
