Supplements (vitamins, minerals, herbs, etc) should NOT be used to prevent cancer; the whole (food) is greater than the sum of its parts (singled out nutrients). When it comes to prevention the research points to food 👉🏻 an eating pattern that is high in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds, legumes and healthy fats.
While there are some recommendations regarding amounts of specific nutrients for specific cancers - like Lycopene, Omega-3 and Fiber for prostate cancer - it is the nutrient found WITHIN the food that is shown to make the difference... the lycopene IN tomatoes, the Omega-3’s IN cold water fish, the Fiber IN fruits/vegetables, whole grains and beans.
For most people, it is possible to get ALL that your body needs through a healthy diet. However, there are a few groups within a population that *may* benefit from supplementation; it is important to discuss any and all supplements you are taking, or plan to take, with your doctor and registered dietitian!
Just because it is “natural” does NOT mean it is safe... for a few reasons. Supplements are not regulated by the FDA and intakes above the recommended dietary allowances (pharmacological doses from supplements + adequate dietary intake) may enhance progression of clinically undetectable cancers (Source: Oncology Nutrition for Clinical Practice). I am sorry guys but currently there is no magic 💊

“You playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking so others won’t feel insecure around you. As you let your own light shine, you indirectly give others permission to do the same.” – Marianne Williamson
What else is possible?!
Stress is tough. We do not have the power to totally eliminate stress and all the stressors that we encounter. We can, however, take steps to help prevent it and help reduce it. When it becomes too much, it’s ok to ask for help.
Work on positive thinking! Before bed try writing down your gratitudes . Not only will it make you think about the good things but also help you sleep better!
I got to thinking about eggs + nutritional yeast last night. 🤔 In particular... can you add the latter to the former?
Well I got up the nerve to experiment this morning with my breakfast and the answer is yes! You can most definitely add nutritional yeast to eggs. 😋 It’s pretty tasty!! The flavor of the NY compliments the flavor of the eggs very nicely. (In fact, it was way more mild than what I was expecting.)
TO MAKE: 🥚 Crack 2 eggs in a bowl
🍳 Add 1-2 tsp Nutritional Yeast
🥚 Add pinch of salt
🍳 Whip until blended then cook on medium heat with coconut oil in pan. •
BENEFITS OF NUTRITIONAL YEAST ⭐️ Vegan friendly “cheese flavor”
🤓 Can help lower cholesterol ⭐️ Helps protect body from free radical damage
🤓 Supports immune system
⭐️ Can help boost energy levels
(All of this is because of the proteins, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that it contains)
What do you like to add Nutritional Yeast to???

As I approach my first 100 followers 🤯, I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Blair, and this is one of FOUR Instagram accounts that I run (crazy, I know). I have a personal account ( @_yogiblair_), an account for my dog ( @nubtailcutie), and an account for a personal blog I run with my husband ( @offensivelymiddleclass)
My Mon-Fri 9-5 job is working in museum education at an art museum; I actually have my Master's degree in art history. I am also a certified yoga instructor and holistic nutritionist, which is what this account is all about. My goal is to empower people to embrace their highest way of being. This means making choices that are good for themselves, but also good for the world around them.
Both my husband and I have been plant based for nearly two years, both for health and *especially* for environmental reasons.
I practice yoga at a local studio, because I believe you should never stop being a student.
I know exactly how hard it can be to make time to cook, to work out, to take care of yourself— but I also strongly believe those things should be made a priority in our lives.
