I was born in a house full of paintings.
mostly pieces created from local artists.
I remember landscapes made by the old school Venetian visionaries, uncle Mauri's great works, some school projects from my cousin Mattia.
really talented mate.
and yeah, a few paintings by Maldem.
definitely not sure about the surname.
Dad met him during a trip around Balcans.
I just think he found him special. Mladem used to paint with everything but brushes.
fingers, spatulas, sponges, random tools.
still on my mind is the time he came to our house as guest in 1995.
he stayed for two weeks and painted the entire time.
smoking and painting, painting and smoking, no breaks.
he was living in Koper at the time,
a sweet wife and couple of sons on his shoulders.
I loved his style, his voice, his attitude.
his alternative path.
I admired him because he was different.
a guy from another world.
a world where expression is more important than impression.
a world of art.
I'd love to dedicate this piece of mine to him.
only god knows where that man wakes up every day.
