This one particular drawing amongst the 12 animal headshots is a little different than the others. I accidentally ended up stepping on it just after it was finished, but before it was framed. It left a bent mark in the paper, and while I was immediately a little sad and annoyed, I was also relieved because it missed the actual graphite area. So... I knew I wanted to frame these originals with some mats that contain a bit of colour (come check them all out this weekend at @littlemodernmarket !) and since I had some blue mechanical pencil lead after last Christmas’ drawing of Bumble (the Abominable Snowman) I figured I’d try to disguise the bent mark to save it.
The print for this one doesn’t have the claw marks - only the original does - so instead of being ruined it’s now extra-special (making lemonade out of lemons over here!). I also got a couple of the frames made in a beautiful coloured metal, so this lemony lion actually, in fact, looks extra-extra-special 😎🍋🦁 .
Here’s a cropped look at the gang of 12 animal headshots (I think they look best all together 😁 🦊 🐨 🦁 🐵) I’m still getting them together but I’ll have the framed originals with me next Saturday at Little Modern Market (Sept 21 at ATCO Park Commons, 930-330)... and so far they’re looking sharp!
If buying framed original art sounds steep, I’m also bringing along 1 beautiful pearl photo print of each of these, already bundled with a mat and foam core if you’ve already got a frame of your own in mind...
I’m also hoping to have a couple other new things ready for the market, plus some great deals on prints of “the oldies” of mine. Add @littlemodernmarket to your calendars, come get some locally produced art, and stay for dozens of the other awesome local creators and vendors! “Support what you like or it goes away”, so let’s keep local YYC small businesses going 🤠 .
I have been drawing a bunch of animal headshots. This here is a lion.
In classic absent-minded fashion I accidentally stepped on this one (long story), but luckily the actual lion portion was unaffected, so GOOD: it’s a chance to execute a rescue mission on the drawing overall. It was also a reminder to treat these drawings more like babies #dontsteponbabies
These are a blast to draw, so I’ll be doing more, and already have 2 in mind. The lion will have to become slightly customized if I can execute my plan. I have a general matting/framing theme for this collection in mind, but also kind of want to frame the eagle in a custom red/white/blue. So overall the collection will have a core look & feel to it, but will be flexible enough to adapt for the odd customization, be it due to inspiration (e.g. symbolism) or necessity (e.g. clumsy feet).
I’m drawing a bunch of animal headshots. This one here is a fox.
I’ll have these headshots with me with me at the Cowboys Casino Stampede Block Party this Friday, June 21st from 5pm-10pm, along with the hover animals, and perhaps a couple more originals too. In fact, I think I might make it an animals-only market as far as my originals on display go... but I will bring along all of my old prints too! In addition to the pop-up market there will be:
. Four different Food Trucks
. Zen 8 Grill Tasting Table
. Happy Hour Pricing all night
. Roaming Circus Entertainers
. Vegas Trip Giveaway between 5pm and 6:15pm
. Life-Sized Monopoly Game in sponsorship with Cowboys Dancehall, Hot Shop Yoga, ZCrew, Vic Park Cross Fit, Two Penny, Hilton Garden Inn, Melrose Café and Coastal Bliss Massage.
. Fall Festival Fashion Show (inside nightclub starting at 8pm)
. Giant Wheel of Prizes
. Country 105 Live on Location
